Is it taking over the northwest dental landscape? I have recently been asked this question a lot. My answer is…The Knutzen-McVay Group has not transitioned or been involved in any practice transitions with a dental corporate entity. I personally am unaware of any recent private practice sales to a corporation. Yes, we have had clients “contacted” by such entities claiming they would very much like to purchase their practice, but these unsolicited offers are typically quickly extinguished once engaged by the recipient.
I will offer that we are seeing more general dentists in the market for second, third or fourth locations…hiring associate dentists while managing the practices centrally from the top down. This pattern is even more so with the specialty practices.
In summary, currently the market of transitioning the single doctor owner practice to a single doctor buyer remains far and away the most prevalent form of transition.
